SANTA CLARA – Fans attending Thursday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders are urged to arrive early, use public transportation or carpool. Thursday’s evening commute will be intensified by the 5 p.m. kickoff as the 49ers expect a capacity crowd of 68,000 to converge on 3Com Park on Thursday, August 14.

The San Francisco Department of Parking and Traffic anticipates heavy traffic on northbound and southbound US 101 approaching 3Com Park and on the westbound Bay Bridge and southbound Golden Gate Bridge throughout Thursday afternoon. DPT encourages fans attending the game to use public transit including Muni, SamTrans, VTA and Tri-Delta Transit express buses directly to 3Com Park in order to avoid both pre and postgame delays.

Construction of the San Francisco Municipal Railway light rail line on Third Street between US 101 and downtown San Francisco may also slow traffic to and from 3Com Park, as the number of lanes have been reduced from three to two in each direction on Third Street. Golden Gate Transit, which normally provides express bus service to 49ers games, will not serve Thursday’s game due to conflicts between evening games and normal bus service on weekday mornings.

Fans going to the 49ers game from the East Bay can ride BART to the Montgomery Station and transfer to express Muni buses to 3Com Park at the corner of Sutter and Sansome Streets. Alternatively, East Bay fans can drive across the San Mateo Bridge and ride SamTrans express buses to 3Com Park from the Highway 92/101 Park and Ride Lot in San Mateo.

Detailed public transit information is available by calling 511 or at www.transitinfo.org and at www.49ers.com.
