151927~Firefighters should be able to afford a house in the city
they serve—Dear Editor,
On March 24, Don Pierce suggested we simply cut police and fire
budgets to repair sidewalks and fund the library.
Clearly he doesn’t understand the expense of operating law
enforcement and fire protection.
Rick,

Well said! Fire and Police are vital! Let the county fund the Library and pick up the tab for the sidewalks.

Everything you said in your letter is true!

Try having a loved one suffer from a heart attack and have the nearest fire unit out on another call!

Although I like your comment “How about going back to a volunteer fire department and using the Sheriff’s posse when the violent felons get out of control.” I am in favor of that too,

maybe if we brought back a volunteer Fire department it could allow the paid fire fighters to work less hours and save some money there. I used to work for a security company that took up the slack for a local police force, handling some calls.

What I am trying to say is we don’t need to cut pay, we need more help for those departments who cannot handle the work load thay already have. If volunteers could be utilized for the less important calls it would help.

All fire fighters and Police officers deserve the utmost respect and honor from the community. Heroes one and all!
