DEAR EDITOR:
For a lot of kids May 1st will be a day to remember. It is called “Fishability Day,” and is fast approaching. This is an opportunity for “disabled” kids to be almost guaranteed to catch fish. In addition they will be treated to free hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and sodas, plus a T-shirt. There will be almost 1,500 planted trout for about 130 kids expected. Chances are pretty good. Go for it!
Several years ago a group of sportsmen (hunters and fishermen) decided to meet monthly for good food and a good time. (I’m not a member). They decided to adopt this day as a project. During the year they hold fund raisers to pay the nearly $5,000 cost.
It is almost a tear jerker to watch the kids catching the fish and eating the food.
This year the event will be held at Mendoza Lake on Roop Road on Saturday, May 1. Everything should be ready to go by 9 or 10 a.m. Club members will be preparing the food and assisting the fisher people. County parks is preparing the parking area and furnishing chemical toilets, as well as the fishing poles. The club will furnish the bait.
If anyone wishes to support this program, the address is: Sportsman Chief, P.O. Box 708, Gilroy. Every little bit helps. Hurry!
