Chris Gimenez named Batter of Week after hitting four HRs for
Scrappers
NILES, Ohio – Gilroy’s Chris Gimenez has arrived.

The former University of Nevada-Reno All-WAC outfielder, who was selected in the 19th round by the Cleveland Indians in the 2004 MLB Draft, was named the New York Penn League’s Batter of the Week (July 11-19).

Gimenez, a 2001 Gilroy High graduate who played three seasons of college ball in Reno, went 10-for-19 for a .526 batting average last week to lead the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in NY-P League action.

In his first season, Gimenez belted four home runs and drove in nine runs in a five-game span. He held a 1.211 slugging percentage and a .591 on-base percentage. Gimenez also had a double and scored eight times.

On the season, Gimenez is batting .290 (27-for-93) in 26 games started. He currently has six doubles and six home runs with 15 runs-batted-in. In addition, Gimenez has worked nine base-on-balls. He is ranked 23rd in batting in the New York-Penn League.
