Gavilan College will hold its third annual Fiesta Mexico Concert at 7 p.m. Saturday inside the Gavilan College Theatre Arts Department at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.

The folklorico event is a “cultural journey through music, song and dance showcasing Mexico’s vibrant dances and colorful costumes” featuring a cast of more than 65 dancers, according to an event press release.

Tickets for Saturday night’s performance, which will highlight three separate ballet folklorico groups from all over California, cost $20 at the door; $15 in advance or $12 for children and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at Gavilan College Bookstore, Garlic City Books in downtown Gilroy or Book Smart in Morgan Hill.

“It’s going to be very lovely,” said Steven Koneffklatt, general director of Ballet Folklorico Costa de Oro and one of the facilitators collaborating on the event.

“It’s exceptionally family friendly,” he said. “There’s always something changing, whether it’s costumes or lights or performers.”

During the first year, about 100 people turned out, and last year there were about 200, he said. This year, organizers are hoping the performance will sell out.

In addition to Saturday night’s performance, this year’s event has been designed as a weekend festival and will feature additional elements.

On Saturday morning there will be two dance workshop sessions, one from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the other from 2 to 5 p.m. Registration is at 8:30 a.m., and the class costs $70.

Seven different dance companies will perform from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday. Tickets for Sunday’s performance cost $10.
