DEAR EDITOR:
After reading the sports page the other day about Gilroy’s loss
to Alvarez, I had to respond. I am an ex-college football coach
with eight grandkids, and two at Gilroy High. I see the poor kids
playing their hearts out, and I find the coach’s remarks in poor
taste.

After reading the sports page the other day about Gilroy’s loss to Alvarez, I had to respond. I am an ex-college football coach with eight grandkids, and two at Gilroy High. I see the poor kids playing their hearts out, and I find the coach’s remarks in poor taste.
If they are not in sync, then it is the coach’s fault, not the kids. The kids are probably smarter and know exactly what needs to be done, but the coaches appear to not care about the seniors and their final season.
I can guess at what they are doing, but they need to realize, this is not the National Football League and it is only fair to each and every class, to put your best men forward. The cream is supposed to rise to the top, but maybe it’s politics at Gilroy High School. I don’t know. It is quite obvious that offense needs help. To put it simply, kids are in the wrong spots. I will not mention names, but it is glaring to the league and others and, I must say, it doesn’t say much about the caliber of coaches at Gilroy High School.
There are kids out there hoping for sports scholarships and these coaches have really dashed any hopes of that. I would hope the athletic director would step in here and say enough is enough. Salvage what is left of this football season. Good luck kids, I’m rooting for you.
