Anchorpoint offense pours it on as defense stands stout for shut
out
Head coach KC Adams stressed throughout the offseason the pivotal role his offensive line will play for the Anchorpoint Christian Warriors this season.
The practice paid huge dividends as the Warriors 8-man football team ran over the King’s Christian Crusaders 54-0 in the season opener Friday night in Lemoore.
“The score didn’t show exactly how the game went,” Adams said. “After the first quarter it was just seven to nothing. But the (offensive) line started going really, really well. They started overpowering and out-doing everybody else.”
With the line hunkering down, running back Kareem Lucas, who had five touchdowns on the day, began to find his groove.
“He just got warmed up,” Adams said. “The offense just started clicking.
Adams said that assistant coach Marlowe Brinson put together a solid defensive scheme perfectly suited to attack the sizable Crusaders’ offense.
“They were a power team. We bent but we didn’t break,” Adams said.
“They put together and sustained some drives but then we would stop them on the 20 (yard line). We had a good plan and didn’t give up much.”
Adams pointed out the play of Jordan Suniga, on both sides of the ball and Ian Waymouth on defense, but again re-iterated how crucial the line play was.
“The offensive line and defensive line were what really carried us,” he said.
Next up for the Anchorpoint is its home opener against Clovis Christian on Saturday. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. at Anchorpoint. The Warriors defeated Clovis 46-0 in the teams’ match up last season.
“They were young last year so they are older now,” Adams said. “We expect a real tough game Saturday.”
