Everything you need to know about Gilroy’s historic win at
Palma
…
Player of the Game: Justin Sweeney
What more can you say? The junior tailback became the first Mustang in modern history to rush for over 300 yards. He also contributed three touchdowns, played corner on third downs and pitched in a few nice punt returns, including a 27-yarder that set up Gilroy’s final scoring drive.
Play of the game:
Driving late for the potential game-tying (possibly game-winning) touchdown, highly acclaimed Palma quarterback Chad Bozzo fumbled in the backfield, and before he could retrieve it, GHS defensive end Kevin Collins drove him to the ground while linebacker Jared Gamm pounced on the ball.
Drive of the game: Palma’s only lead didn’t last long. As soon as they fell behind 15-14 midway through the second quarter, the Mustangs responed right back with a five-minute, 11-play, 85-yard drive. Sweeney ran in a four-yard TD and carried a shuttle pass in for the two-point conversion.
