defeat Thursday
GILROY – The Gavilan College women’s basketball team suffered a 72-52 defeat Thursday at the hands of Ohlone College in its first interdivisional conference game.

“We played the best game we ever played all year,” said head coach Michelle Mannisto despite the unfavorable outcome. “Ohlone beat some top ranked teams this year. They are a really tough team.”

The Lady Rams were ahead by eight with three minutes left in the first half before foul trouble placed two starters on the bench – allowing Ohlone to rally for a 10-point halftime lead.

In the second half, two Lady Rams fouled out with 15 minutes to go so the team had only five players to finish out the game.

“We did the best we could with what we had going on,” Mannisto said. “It was the first time this year that I felt really good about our team.”

Freshman guard Nicole Donley netted a team-high 17 points. Freshman Keisha Webster finished with 13 points, while freshman Noreen Bailey added 10 points for the Lady Rams.
