Despite temperamental weather throughout the morning, the Frys.com Open started without a hitch Thursday. Early morning golfers are still on the course, including Live Oak High alum John Ellis.
Ellis, who began his day on the back nine, struggled from the beginning shooting a double bogey on the second hole. Ellis hit four more bogeys to go out at 5-over, 41.
Last year’s winner Rocco Mediate started this morning shooting par on the first three holes. Through 17 holes, Mediate is 1-over par, trading two birdies for three bogies.
Kevin Na, coming off a PGA Tour victory in the 2011 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open, has started strong, shooting 2-under through 15 holes.
Troy Matteson is the first leader into the club house with a 3-under 68. Greg Chalmers and Kevin Na are in at 2-under.
Tiger Woods is expected to tee off from the first hole at 12:10 p.m. Look online for an update.
