The not-so-serious Great Garlic 5k FUNdraiser is not quite your typical foot race.

The run, held at the Gilroy Sports Complex at 9 a.m. on Oct. 27, raises money for Gilroy’s Recreation Youth Scholarship Program which allows underprivileged children to participate in City recreation programs.

Participants are encouraged to get across the finish line any way they fancy – whether that’s by foot, bike, wheelchair, skateboard or rollerblades. Last year, people brought their dogs along to join in the fun, said Judy Mireles-Janisch, chairwoman of the parks and recreation commission.

The case comes the Saturday before Halloween, so naturally, festive costumes are encouraged.
