Merced – Gavilan found the road a lot less friendly than home.

Merced College opened its baseball season by using solid pitching by Matt Stabelfeld and plenty of offensive support Saturday in a 10-1 win over Gavilan.

Stabelfeld pitched hitless ball for five innings, striking out six and walking one, and the Blue Devils tagged the Rams for nine runs in the first four innings, including four in the first.

Gavilan, which opened its season a day earlier by beating City College of San Francisco, 11-7, is at CCSF at 2pm today.
