30-26 win over Merced College.
Freshman Teresa Hodges was nearly unstoppable Friday night as she helped the Gavilan women’s volleyball team to a 30-23, 30-22, 30-26 win over Merced College.

Hodges led the Rams with 17 Kills and four aces while sophomores Jamie Temperino added 7 kills and Janet Unciano had 21 assists. The win moves Gavilan to a 2-2 overall record.

On Saturday, the Rams traveled to Stockton to compete in the 2007 Delta College Classic Tournament. One of the biggest volleyball tournaments in Northern California, hosting almost 20 teams, Gavilan opened up with Taft College and dropped a close match 25-17, 25-23. The team quickly bounced back, though, sweeping the next two matches against Solano College 25-23, 25-20, and Diablo Valley College 25-22, 25-19. The two wins put the Rams into a three-way tie for first place and moved them into the Championship Playoff Bracket.

In the first round of playoffs, Gavilan quickly defeated Columbia College 25-16, 25-18, which moved them into the quarter finals against second seeded Fresno City College. In a close game, Fresno City defeated the Rams 25-20, 25-15. Gavilan finished the day tied for 5th place out of 17 teams.

The team’s next matches will be in the Fog City Classic at Skyline College on Saturday. Gavilan will face College of Alameda and Skyline College.
