Gavilan Roundup: April 15

Gavilan gave the home crowd a show one last time.
The Rams topped Hartnell 5-3 in their home finale Thursday at Gavilan, improving to 23-9 overall and 9-4 in conference play.
Gavilan jumped out to a 4-0 lead after scoring two runs in both the first and second innings. Hartnell answered with a run in the top of the fourth and cut the host’s lead in half with another in the top of the sixth, 4-2.
The Rams quickly answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth. The Panthers scored once more in the top of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to lift them past Gavilan.
Paige Miguel, Samantha Parraz and Samantha Ribeiro all had an RBI in the game. Miguel also had two hits and a stolen base. She was the winning pitcher (17-6), allowing one run on four hits while striking out four and walking one in four and one-third innings of work.
Gavilan currently sits at No. 2 in the Coast Conference – South division and are chasing a playoff berth. The Rams will play at West Valley at 3 p.m. today.
Gavilan falls to MPC, Ohlone
It was an even fought battle between Gavilan and Monterey Peninsula Saturday, but a pair of late runs by the Lobos gave them the victory.
The Rams lost their second straight, a 5-3 final, in Monterey to fall to 11-20 overall and 5-14 in conference play.
Gavilan trailed 3-2 in the top of the sixth, but evened the score when Eric Guill-Perez reached on an error to score Jake Conlan. That was all the Rams would be able to muster up, as MPC would score two more runs in the bottom of the eighth for the victory.
Conlan started off the scoring, driving in Adam Kocina and DJ Santellano with a single in the top of the first. Conlan finished with two hits, two RBIs and a run. Kocina led all batters, going 4 for 5 with a run.
Robert Gomez was handed the loss, throwing just one inning but allowing two runs on two hits.
Gavilan also lost 5-1 to Ohlone College Thursday in Fremont. The Rams lone run came off a Danny Gutierrez single in the top of the fifth that scored Guill-Perez. Guill-Perez had a stolen base in that game.
Santellano was the losing pitcher, allowing five runs — four earned — on three hits through five innings of work. He also walked six and struck out five.
Gavilan is entering the tail end of it’s season with just five games left — four of which are at home. The Rams will host Canada College at 2:30 p.m. today.
