Runs in the eighth and ninth innings weren’t enough to lift Gavilan past Ohlone in the Coast Conference opener.
The Rams fell 10-2 in Fremont Tuesday marking their second straight loss. Scott Tall (1-3) was given the loss, giving up seven runs on seven hits in four innings of work. He also struck out three and walked one.
Gavilan trailed 10-0 heading into the top of the eighth, but was finally able to get on the board off a Danny Gutierrez double that scored Aaron Wallace.
Gutierrez was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two doubles in the game.
The visitors were able to push one more across in the top of the ninth when Alex Hagiperos hit an RBI single to score John Forestieri.
Hagiperos was 1 for 2 with an RBI while Forestieri was 0 for 1 with a run scored and a walk.
Ohlone scored five runs in the bottom of the second, two in the fourth and three in the sixth for the final.
The Rams (6-7 overall, 0-1 in conference) will be back in action at 2 p.m. Thursday (weather permitting) at Monterey Peninsula College.
