The Gavilan women’s basketball team’s nine-game skid has come to an end.Â
The Rams topped Hartnell 75-73 in a double overtime thriller in Salinas Wednesday.Â
Andreinna Casteneda led the team with a double-double of 31 points and 16 rebounds. Kelsey Caudill added 19.Â
Hartnell took a slim 30-28 lead into the half, but Gavilan outscored the hosts by two after the break to send the game into OT.
Both teams posted nine points in the first OT period, but Gavilan was able to pull out the victory by outscoring Hartnell 11-9 in the second overtime period.
Gavilan (2-14, 1-3) Â played at Monterey Peninsula Friday, results from this game were not yet available.Â
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Lobos top Rams
Wyatt Madrid led Gavilan with 16 points in its contest at Monterey Peninsula Friday, but the team’s skid continued.
The Rams lost 73-53 to the Lobos, dropping their 13th straight. The team is now 1-15 overall, 0-5 in conference on the season, with it’s only win coming Nov. 12 against Merced by a score of 70-65.
Mauricio Medrano and Ramandeep Bassi also scored in double digits for Gavilan, each posting 12 points in the game.
The Rams also dropped their game at Hartnell on Wednesday, losing 59-49. Bassi led the Gavilan scorers with 16 points in that contest while Medrano added 15.Â
Gavilan will look to rebound in its 5 p.m. home contest against Cabrillo on Wednesday.Â
