Gavilan Roundup: Jan. 8

Gavilan was within five points at halftime of Wednesday’s Coast Conference opener against Mission, but the second half just escaped them. 
The Rams lost 68-45 to the Saints despite another standout performance from freshman Katrina Diaz. 
Diaz led her team in scoring with 18 points and pulled down five rebounds and two steals. 
Felicia Lee-Cardenas also scored in double digits, posting 14 points, five rebounds and two steals. 
Brittany Valdez was stellar on defense and racked up 13 rebounds. She added six points, three assists and two steals. 
Gilroy High alum Brianna Barron chipped in with four points, four rebounds and two steals. 
The Rams (5-10 overall, 0-1 in conference) will take on Hartnell at 5 p.m. Friday in Salinas.

Gavilan drops conference opener to West Valley
The Rams dropped their fifth straight contest, falling 63-57 to West Valley Wednesday to kick-off Coast Conference play. 
Stats and scoring from this game were not yet available.
Gavilan (1-12 overall, 0-1 in conference) will look to rebound when it takes on Hartnell at 7 p.m. Friday in Salinas.
