Gavilan College students have a new option to participate in the popular Introduction to Public Speaking class this fall. For the first time, the course will be offered in a five-week format, in addition to the semester-long format.
The five-week class will carry three units of credit, cover the same material and meet for the same total number of hours of instruction as the semester-long option. Students can complete their oral communications requirement in only five weeks, which will provide more flexibility for students who are balancing school, work and family responsibilities.Â
Introduction to Public Speaking (CMUN 1A) is transferable to California State University and University of California. The course imparts the “basic principles of effective human communication and their function in contemporary public settings; emphasis is on speeches to inform and persuade,” according to the course catalog description.Â
Three sections will be offered during the fall semester from 2:30 p.m. to 5:50 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays on the Gilroy campus, located at 5055 Santa Teresa Boulevard in Gilroy.Â
-Section 10382 begins Aug. 29 and runs through Sep. 27
-Section 10376 begins Oct. 2 and runs through Nov. 1
-Section 10383 begins Nov. 6 and runs through Dec. 6
