She was preceded in death by her husband, George, sister, Jane and brother Hubert. Throughout her life she was active in community events and was an antique car hobbyist, also famous for her fantastic apple pies. She served on the local election board in Gilroy until her mid-nineties.
Special thanks to her wonderful neighbors, Sharon and Tony Legnon, Vicki and Albert Esquivel and Rich Swanson who provided support to her after George passed in 2010. Thanks to Valley Pines Assisted Living where she spent her last six months and made several friends. She is now back with her loving husband, George.
There will not be a service at this time. The family requests that any donations be given to George and Genelle’s home church, Shadow Mountain Baptist Church in Morgan Hill, CA. For online condolences please visit http://www.habingfamilyfuneralhome.com
To the Azevedo Family, I lived next door on liman Ave. Gilroy when I was very young. Genelle’s home was a safe haven for me. Shirley was my best friend and I watched Donny crash in front of our house when I was maybe 5 or 6. When Grandma Merenda passed away we moved to Palm Springs. I remember Genelle making my first day of school dress to match Shirley and even to the perm in my hair did she make happen! She was my inspiration and I’ve spent my lifetime missing your family. I’m on FB as Diane Kellar Thomas. Would love to keep in touch. I live in Ridgefield CT now with two grown daughters, one is married with 4 kids and my oldest is divorced with one daughter who’s finishing her Master’s degree in Santa Barbara. I’ve been married to my second husband for nearly 47 years. I never forgot your Mom or you three Azevedo kids! Thinking of you often…Love Diane Kellar Thomas
