Dear Editor,

Contrary to the editorial printed yesterday, the Gilroy High School parent club is alive and well and continuing in the 2005-2006 school year with a new slate of officers. These officers were volunteered and approved through the participating parents and teachers at the last parent club meeting on May 26.

Let me introduce them now:

• President: Valerie Hunt, parent of two students at GHS, one of whom is graduating this year.

• Co-President: Martin Garcia, parent of two freshman students.

• Vice President: Charlie Morales, member of Gilroy City Council, and grandparent of a student currently at GHS.

• Secretary: Diane Baty, parent of three students at GHS, one will graduate this year.

• Treasurer: Cathy Silva, parent of two students at GHS.

Two of the officers are also teachers at the high school, Cathy Silva and I. We are both pleased to represent the dual roles that we have this next school year. In the past, I was treasurer of the South Valley Middle School Parent Club for 3 1/2 years when my children attended there. At that time, Cathy Silva was also an actively involved parent in the club.

We are planning our first parent club meeting for the last Wednesday in August, and as the year moves forward, we plan to collaborate with the Cal-SOAP monthly parent meeting schedule so many more people can be aware and support the activities of the GHS Parent Club.

We invite all parents and teachers to attend these future meetings.

Valerie Hunt, Gilroy
