Mountain View 61-42 in non-league action Monday night.
GILROY – The Gilroy High girls varsity basketball team picked up its fifth win in six tries to start the season, defeating visiting Mountain View 61-42 in non-league action Monday night.
Three Lady Mustangs posted double-digit scoring efforts led by junior Lauren Rhodes’ 14 points. Senior Laura Steele had a second straight 11-point game and junior Chelsea Hill contributed 10.
The Lady Mustangs are now 5-1 and travel to Soquel on Thursday.
BOYS SOCCER
A first-half goal by Jorge Sanchez was enough for the Gilroy High boys varsity soccer team to get by North Salinas 1-0 to open up Tri County Athletic League play on Monday.
Sanchez’ goal, his second in the last three games, was assisted by Josh Gonzales.
The Mustangs’ victory Monday followed a 3-1 win over Palo Alto in the second game of the annual Homestead Christmas Cup.
Gilroy led 2-1 at the half on goals by Jonathon Diaz De Leon and Clemente Pineda. Forrest Alvarez added a second-half goal to extend the Mustangs’ advantage.
Next up for GHS (4-0-1, 1-0) is a road game against non-league opponent Yerba Buena on Thursday.
