since 1983-84, by beating Palma 4-0 Thursday.

Gilroy High’s boys soccer team moved a step closer to attaining a second straight league title, not done since 1983-84, by beating Palma 4-0 Thursday.
The Mustangs now trail Alisal by two points in the Tri-County Athletic League standings heading into the final week of the regular season. The teams will face each other in the season finale Thursday.
Gilroy was led by Bruce Ocana and Carlos Cortez against Palma, scoring one and two goals, respectively. For Cortez, the game marked his first and second goals of the season.
“It was a beautiful shot,” GHS co-head coach Armando Padilla said of the first goal.
Ocana, who has been on a tear of late, also had two assists in the game. He has scored three goals in as many games to go with four assists.
“We’ve had high expectations of [Ocana] and he’s really turned it on since the middle of the season,” Padilla said. “Which is perfect for us because this is when we want to get hot, right around playoff time.”
Anthony Velasquez had Gilroy’s final goal, a header in the 32nd minute of the second half.
The Mustangs’ final two home games will be North Salinas Saturday at 10 a.m., and Salinas, which will also be senior night, 6 p.m. Tuesday.
