The Gilroy Police Department arrested a 23-year-old Gilroy man Thursday who allegedly stabbed another man in a violent assault, according to a press release.
Detectives determined that Oliver Basto Cabrera, Jr. was responsible for assaulting a 49-year-old Gilroy man, and he was later arrested and booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, the release states.
After responding to a disturbance at approximately 7:50 a.m. on the 7300 block of Chestnut Street, police discovered the victim – whose name is being withheld at this time – had suffered multiple stab wounds to the upper body. First responders arrived on scene and the victim was ultimately transported via air ambulance; police say he is expected to survive.
According to the release, an investigation revealed Cabrera was the perpetrator and both the victim and Cabrera knew each other. The crime was not motivated by any gang affiliation, police say.
