The Mustangs proved to be no Trojan horse on Tuesday, bucking Alisal in a 6-1 victory.
GHS won all three doubles matches and three out of four singles contests.
The Trojans only win came in an intense, two-set match between Emily Castro and Cindy Lenog, “who kept putting the ball back into play no matter what Emily did,” according to GHS coach Jami Reynolds.
“Emily lost 4-6, 5-7 but it was close with each game going to deuce,” Reynolds said.
No. 1 singles player Mischelle Tajan gave Gilroy a victory with a two-set, tiebreaker win (5-7, 7-5, 10-7) over Anabel Quintero.
No. 2 GHS singles player Amy Huang won her match handily 6-0, 6-2, while Gories Kwong battled back from being down 5-1 in the first set to take six games in a row before winning the second set 6-3.
No. 1 doubles partners Karissa Tellez and Holly Hunter “took charge of the net and moved together as a team,” according to Reynolds, winning their match 6-1, 6-3.
The Mustangs’ next match will be Thursday at Hollister.

Golf
Gilroy finished third with a score of 249 in the Tri-County Athletic League meet Monday at Ridgemark Golf Course in Hollister.
“With only three weeks left, we have come along way,” said coach Eric Kuwada. “Our scores have dropped by almost 20 strokes. The girls are improving each day and have come along well. From the first Jamboree to now, we lost 20 strokes, and we are hitting the ball better. We’ve come from topping shots to hitting woods off the tee. The girls have improved by reducing the number of pick-ups in their score.”
