Patricia G. Lomanto

Patricia G. Lomanto passed away unexpectedly at her residence Dec. 17th at the age of 72 years. A native of Hollister, Patricia graduated from Sacred Heart School and San Benito High School. "Pat" as she was affectionately called by her friends, worked for the Hollister School District for over 30 years as a Teachers Aid, the greatest percentage of the time spent at Sunnyslope Elementary School. She also served as the "Cross Walk Lady" at the Hillcrest and Memorial Drive intersection. Upon her retirement she returned to Sunnyslope School to volunteer where ever she could. "She was devoted to the children in the District, and she made long time friendships as a result of her efforts", said her daughters. Patricia loved to read, travel – especially to Reno- "it was a ladies day out" said her daughters. She loved animals, her cats, and collected all types of items featuring pictures of cats. Her survivors are her children and their spouses Kelly and David Dominguez of Hollister, Julie and Dave Derr of Weiser, Idaho; Peter and Tracey Lomanto of Los Banos; her eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; her sister and brother-in-law Verna and Phil Globke of Utah, in-laws Peter and Carmen Lomanto of Hollister, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her son Chuck Lomanto.

Santiago Dimas Jr.

Our Lord Jesus Christ welcomed Santiago Dimas Jr. into the kingdom of heaven on the 17th day of December 2008. He died peacefully at the age of 54. Santiago's memory is lived on through his wife of thirty-three years Pamela, his two daughters Sara and Salina, and his grand-daughter Julianna. He is also survived by his sisters Juanita of San Jose, CA and Micaela of Gaston, South Carolina along with his many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends. Visitation and public viewing will be held at Habing Family Funeral Home on Friday December 19, 2008 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. On Saturday December 20, 2008. Funeral services will be held for Santiago at Habing Family Funeral Home beginning at 10:00 A.M. Following the funeral service, the burial will take place at Gavilan Hills Cemetery on First Street in Gilroy.

Joshua Andrew Raymond Harvey

Joshua Andrew Raymond Harvey passed away in Beaufort, S.C. Paris Island Marine Corps Base at the age of 19. He was born in Kennesaw, GA and graduated from Monte Vista Christian High School in Watsonville. He enlisted in the Marines and was a Lance Corporal. When living in Hollister, he attended Grace Bible Church.

Allison Margaret Stevenson Rhodes

Allison Margaret Stevenson Rhodes peacefully passed away at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital on November 20, 2008 at the age of 71. She was a nineteen year resident of Ridgemark Estates in Hollister. Cremation was arranged by the Neptune Society. Private family inurnment is planned.

Elizabeth Wilson

Elizabeth Wilson passed away peacefully at home in Phoenix, AZ surrounded by her family. She was preceeded in death by her husband of 55 years, Junior Wilson. She is survived by her daughter Patricia and her husband Sam Tharp of Phoenix, her daughter Mary and her husband Jim Erler of Crescent City, her son John Wilson of Gilroy; her grandchildren, Kellie Tharp of Phoenix, David Erler, Jonathan Erler, Timothy Erler, Joshua Erler all of Crescent City; great-grandchildren, Leon Erler, Jeana Erler and Kaylin Erler all of Crescent City. She is survived by her brother, Claude Howard of Lexington, KY. She was born in Caywood, KY and moved to Gilroy in the mid 1940's. She took great joy in raising her children and taking care of her home. She worked with her husband at Office Equipment Sales in Gilroy for 13 years. She enjoyed travel, gardening, shopping, line dancing and spending time with her walking and exercise groups. She was a member of Eastern Star, Women In Touch and The Gilroy Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at The Gilroy Presbyterian Church at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday December 21st.

Donald Jackson Kerr

Donald J. Kerr (D.J.)age 85, died unexpectedly on Saturday December 13th at Community Hospital of the Monterey Pennisula. Mr. Kerr was born in Vestaburgh, PA. Don spent his formative years in McKeesport, PA and graduated from McKeesport High School. He met his future wife Louise Boehmer, a cheerleader, while playing Center position for the McKHS Tigers football team. They were married after WWII and were together for 55 years. Don was a Paratrooper in the U.S. Army during WWII serving in New Guinea and the Phillipines. After the war, Don attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated in 1950 with a B.S. in Business Administration. After graduation, he worked for the Naval Research Institute in Washington D.C. The majority of his career however, was spent working for the Westinghouse Corporation, specializing in the area of Nuclear Power. It was his work with Westinghouse that brought Don and his family to Saratoga in 1964. Among his numerous projects was procurement associated with the Nautilus and Skipjack; the first two Nuclear Submarines to venture under the Polar Ice Cap.

Jo Helen Reed

Jo Helen Reed passed away December 5, 2008 in San Diego, CA. She was born in 1923 in Roff, Oklahoma but she lived over 50 years in her beloved Gilroy. She was the wife of John Reed, deceased in 1981, also of Gilroy. For the past ten years, Mrs. Reed had been living in Oceanside, CA, north of San Diego.
