Police and a Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office helicopter chased a felon Tuesday in the areas of Montebello Drive, Wren Avenue and Ortega Circle, according to Gilroy Police Sgt. Jim Gillio.
Police attempted to stop the suspect, wanted for violating his parole, at 3:54 p.m. The suspect got out of the car and ran on foot into the Gilroy neighborhood surrounding Ortega Circle, Gillio said. He said police set up a perimeter but were unable to apprehend him.
“He broke out of the perimeter before we set it up,” Gillio said.
At 5:30 p.m. a county sheriff’s helicopter was dispatched to the area to assist the GPD, but soon had to turn back due to a lack of fuel, according Sgt. Rick Sung with the sheriff’s office.
Gillio said police were not informed on the specifications of the warrant or what the suspect was convicted of.
Due to an ongoing investigation, police cannot disclose the name of the suspect but said he is a 5-foot-8-inch white male, weighs 150 pounds and was seen wearing a white tank top.
