UPDATE:

A pedestrian died after she was struck by a train at Leavesley and Monterey roads Tuesday morning.

According to Gilroy Police, the collision happened at about 8:45am.

Despite life-saving efforts, the female pedestrian succumbed to her injuries, police said.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin. 

No further information was available as of Tuesday evening. Collisions involving trains are investigated by the Union Pacific Railroad Police, who assumed the investigation with the assistance of the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office.

The intersection was shut down for hours as investigators combed the scene.

Gilroy Police are investigating a collision involving a train Tuesday morning.

Police issued an alert shortly before 9:30am about the collision in the area of Monterey Street and Leavesley Road.

More details about the collision were not immediately available, but police said traffic in the area will be affected for an extended period of time.
