Board approved tentative agreement for classified employees and
classroom aides
Gilroy – The Gilroy Unified School District board unanimously approved agreements that change the payment schedule and beefs up the benefits packages for the Classified School Employees’ Association and the Gilroy Federation of Teachers and Paraprofessionals.
The resolution, approved during Thursday evening’s board meeting, means the district will contribute more money per month for health care. Under the former payment plan, the district contributed cash based on a three tiered payment plan.
Under the old plan, the two unions received $310 for individuals enrolled in single payer plans, $620 for two-party coverage and $800 for family, regardless of the company selected. Under the new agreement, employees receive benefits based on the plan selected.
Now, individuals who select the single Kaiser HMO plan receive $399, $798 for two-party and $1,129 for family coverage. Employees may also choose Blue Cross and now the district will cover $424 for a single payer on an HMO plan.
The CSEA – comprised of bus drivers, custodians, receptionists, food service and technology employees – ratified its agreement on Aug. 30 before setting it on the table for board approval. The GFT&P union is made up of all classroom aides.
The groups will continue to discuss the remaining elements of the overall compensation package for 2006-07. CSEA and the district agreed to complete all negotiations no later than Jan. 31 of next year and GFT&P agreed to a Jan. 26 deadline.
