GILROY – Gilroy High’s varsity girls basketball team sailed past Gunderson 61-17 Thursday evening in the first round of the Mustang Classic being held at Bob Hagen Gymnasium.
Lindsey Foster led all scorers with 16 points, helping Gilroy to get off to a 22-2 lead after the first quarter and 29-4 advantage at the half.
“It was good to see Lindsey scoring some points,” Gilroy coach Susan Shapiro said.
Chelsea Hill and Carmen Pichardo both had eight points for the Mustangs, and Sovi Nou followed with six. In total, Gilroy had 11 different scorers.
“We’re happy,” Shapiro said. “Everyone executed really well and everyone got to play.”
Gilroy will face Aptos, which beat North Monterey County 68-41, today at 6:30 p.m. in the second round of the tournament. The winner of that game will advance to Saturday’s championship contest, which will be played at 5 p.m.
