Morgan Hill – Girls doubles continued to be strong for Gilroy badminton Friday as the Mustangs defeated host Live Oak 9-6 in a Blossom Valley Athletic League West Valley Division match.
The Gilroy girls have dropped just one set in doubles so far in helping the Mustangs to a 3-2 overall record. Meiyi Liang and Cuinei Ma won 15-8, 15-0 at No. 1 doubles. The Nos. 2 and 3 teams won by forfeit.
Other winners for Gilroy were Arthur Lee at No. 1 boys singles, 15-13, 15-9; Jorge Fernandez at No. 3 boys singles, 15-8, 10-15, 15-5; Brian Hentschke and Will Ebert at No. 2 boys doubles, 15-3, 15-8; James Kwong and Rafael Quirov at No. 3 boys doubles, 15-0, 15-4; Vindy Yang and Anthony Ualat, 15-2, 17-14 in No. 2 mixed doubles; and Stinamarie Marshall and Johannas Seitz at No. 3 mixed doubles, 15-9, 9-15, 15-11.
“I feel pretty about women’s doubles and men’s singles is very strong,” GHS coach Wayne Scott said. “If we can pick up a couple more sets here and there, we’ll be OK. I think we’ll hold our own in league this year.”
The Mustangs are at home at 3:30pm Tuesday to face Branham.
