WATSONVILLE – On a cold and foggy Spring Hills GC in Watsonville, the Gilroy High girls golf team went at it with Monte Vista Christian – coming in with a 223 combined team score compared to MVC’s 207 team score.

“(Those are) tough conditions for the golfers who have never played the golf course before. The golf course is not a push-over,” head coach Eric Kuwada said. “Shot making is key and the girls struggled a bit playing a strange semi-tough course in cold, foggy conditions.”

For the Lady Mustangs, Kristen Campos and Andrea Hugo both shot team-low 55s with Amy Kishimura shooting a 56, Carissa Filice shooting a 57, Heather Peterson shooting a 68, and Jackie Iwanaga shooting a 74.

The Lady Mustangs have one league match remaining Thursday against Santa Catalina at Gilroy Golf Course before the Oct. 21 league finals start up at Salinas CC.

“As a warm-up to league finals, it was a good test to see where their games are at right now,” Kuwada said. “For some of the players, we are talking about playing strategies and prepping for the league finals. Finishing putts and getting out of trouble are important for them to work on to score well at Salinas CC on Monday.”
