The District 59 girls softball 10-year-old all-star champions from Gilroy enjoyed a first-round bye in the Northern California Division II Tournament on Saturday in Concord.

The extra rest proved beneficial as the girls outlasted Consumnes River 14-0 on Sunday.

Even though his team shutout its opponent, manager George Sandoval said it was a tough game, however, “overall Gilroy had good defense and offense.”

Maria Sandoval bounced back from her off game in the District 59 championship effort, returning to her dominating ways and going the distance in a six-inning complete game. Sandoval no-hit Consumnes, striking out 13 and walking just six.

Juliana Santiago, Brittany Gitmed and Sandoval all had two singles along with two RBI.

Gilroy’s next game is Thursday in Concord against Chico.

Chico defeated Red Bluff 1-0 in extra innings.
