DEAR EDITOR:

The Oct. 14 Dispatch article about Gavilan College “Finding help for at-risk students” and the coming bond election for Gavilan campus improvements have prompted me to again ask the question I haven’t been able to get a satisfactory answer for in more than 20 years.

The question is: How can Gavilan be justified in giving college credits for elementary school level and secondary school level work? This practice is most noticeable to me in the math department where clearly most of the courses offered are sub-college level.

I have no objection to the courses being given; but, I can’t rationalize giving college credit for them. Someone please justify this practice.
