The 1950’s return to downtown Morgan Hill when the Poppy Jasper Film Festival holds its first fund raising event of the year – a one-night only showing of the musical film “Grease” starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
“The choice of Grease was virtually unanimous within our organizing committee,” said film festival chairwoman Kim Bush. “Perhaps no other film in the last several decades has the following and cross-generational appeal as Grease.”
The movie will be shown at the historic, but closed, Granada Theater, which will re-open for the Saturday, July 10, showing.
The Granada also will host the Poppy Jasper Film Festival in November.
“The ambiance of the Granada lends itself to ‘Grease,’ and we’re thrilled it’s been made available for us,” said Bush.
“Grease” is just part of the attraction at this special event. Rosemary Rossell, organizer of the screening, has a few pre-show surprises planned.
“I don’t want to tip my hand, but let’s just say this will be an interactive experience,” she said. “We’re also encouraging guests to come wearing their best 1950’s era clothes and hairstyles.”
Bush emphasized that, while “Grease” is a perfect date movie, it also appeals to families.
“We want the entire community to come enjoy the film – kids, parents, grandparents; this is a film the whole family can watch together,” Bush said. “It’s also our first major fund-raiser for the November film festival, and we’re hoping for a great turnout.”
“Grease” will be shown Saturday, July 10, at the Granada Theater, 17440 Monterey Road. Tickets are $15 at the door and include admission, drink and snacks. Doors open at 7 p.m. Seating is limited.
