CALLER 1: This is just to let you know that we loved the sports front in the Saturday, January 14, 2006 edition of the Gilroy Dispatch that depicted head basketball coaches Kari Williams and Bud Ogden as captains of the GHS Basketball ship.
GREEN PHONE: While this wasn’t an actual Green Phone Caller we have received several calls to the sports desk about this sports front. Apparently it is the talk of Gilroy High School and everybody from coaches to players is having a great time giving it to the two head coaches. For the record while the thought process behind the graphic was sports editor John Coscia’s demented brain at work it was only through the Adobe Photoshop talents of photographer Chris Riley that the idea was able to make its way through to fruition.
It’s been reported to us here at the Dispatch Sports Desk that the girls team welcomed Coach Williams back to the first practice by saluting their coach and hailing her with the words ‘Aye, Aye, Captain.’ Coach Williams quickly responded by having the girls run lines. Since then we’ve heard that several other coaches have hailed the two coaches and had fun with them. Apparently every time that happens the girls are required to run laps.
Clearly, if nothing else, we’ve become responsible for getting the girls in the best shape of their lives with all that extra running.
But seriously, we want to thank both Bud Ogden and Kari Williams for being such great sports and we wish you both well as you streak toward TCAL titles.
