The fifth annual Senior Citizen Ball put on by the Gilroy Youth Commission was a smashing success Saturday at Christopher High Dining Commons on 850 Day Road, where roughly 160 people – not including the 50 volunteers – turned out for the event.

Attendees from the Gilroy Youth Commission, CHS baseball players and students from several local high schools came outfitted for the occasion and ready to dance.

“That’s the awesome part,” said Gayle Glines, recreation supervisor for the City of Gilroy. “The ladies’ faces just light up. They come to enjoy the night not realizing they’re going to get to dance … then the kids are on the dance floor, learning all these steps from the women.”

A 60-piece swing band set the “Tuxedo Junction” theme into motion as guests from the Gilroy Senior Center at 7371 Hanna St. were treated to a gourmet meal and a game of bingo.

“It was great,” said Glines.

She noted the entire event was made possible by various fundraising events and donations.
