Upcoming concert to feature two veteran players
Staff Report
Two seasoned guitar players and teachers will be featured in a special concert Sept. 16 in Gilroy. The show is presented by the Gilroy Guitar Gallery.
Kenny Hill, the first performer, owns the Hill Guitar Co., an American classical guitar company located in Felton. All of his guitars are handmade in the shop using Spanish traditions. Hill has been a performing musician since he was a child.
Robby Longley, the second guitarist, has eight CDs with original compositions, three theatrical films and a two-hour improvisation performance to a silent film. He’s currently working on his ninth album, and his style is a fusion of flamenco, classical and jazz.
The Gilroy Guitar Gallery has presented about 21 concerts, workshops and clinics since it opened five years ago, said Rocco Tavani, the shop’s owner. This concert will be the first featuring guitars with nylon strings.
“Classical (guitar) players will get an insight into some of the artistry of the masters, and they’ll also get insight into guitar building from Kenny Hill, who will talk about his guitars,” Tavani said. “Hopefully, it will inspire others to try nylon guitars.”
