Junior prom was held this past Saturday at Eagle Ridge. For the past month and a half or so, my friends and I have been talking about one thing and one thing only: junior prom. Okay, so maybe my female friends and I had been looking forward to it for a month and a half. The guys pretty much tuned us out, or just left the conversation when we started talking about dresses or shoes or dates.
Everyday at lunch we would ask each other “So do you have your dress yet?” or “Who are you going with?” We could not wait for the night of junior prom.
The two weeks leading up to prom we were all running around like chickens with our heads cut off. Some of us were still trying to find the perfect dress, or the perfect date. We were trying to figure out our dinner plans, which at one point included a group of 23 people, all going to a restaurant in San Jose. Due to scheduling conflicts our group got whittled down to 12, which probably was a good thing.
I must admit that I was skeptical about going to dinner in San Jose when our prom was in Gilroy, but I stepped back and let everyone else plan. Our reservation was at 6:30pm, and we had to be at the dance by 8:45pm or we would not be admitted. I did not think that there was any possible way that we would make it to San Jose, eat dinner and get back on time.
Dinner was a fun affair itself. We all met at my date’s house and took pictures and then drove up to San Jose. The restaurant was really nice and the food was excellent, but what made it so much fun were the people in our group. Our group consisted of eight juniors, three seniors, and one freshman. We ended up with a diverse and crazy group which made it all the more fun.
We got to the dance at 8:35pm, with 10 minutes to spare. Several of the people in our group were selected to take Breathalyzer tests, which they all passed.
The dance was already in full swing, so we got to skip that awkward standing around time that always takes place at the beginning of dances. There were two dance floors, and we immediately hit the upstairs dance floor, which was partially outside. The dance floor was already packed as we worked our way into the crowd and began to dance. We soon worked up a sweat and after about an hour went downstairs and took a water break.
At 10pm, they had to close the upstairs dance floor for noise reasons, so we were all crowded onto the downstairs dance floor. A downside to moving downstairs was that they played some of the songs that they had played upstairs. We somehow worked our way into the very middle of the dance floor and danced up a storm. We stayed until the very end and danced until we could dance no more. A member of our group’s legs were cramping, and my legs were actually shaking as we left the dance.
After the dance, our group went back to my date’s house and went swimming. After working up a sweat on the dance floor, nothing felt better than diving into a nice cold pool, and just relaxing.
The junior prom experience was amazing. I don’t think I have enough words in my vocabulary to describe just how much fun we had. It was hands down the best dance I have ever been to, but we were all sad when it was over. We are already looking forward to senior dinner dance and senior prom next year.
We still have not stopped talking about prom. We ate, we danced, we laughed, we sat in the hot tub and then we slept. We had an absolute blast, and we did so safely and we did so soberly.
