The Gilroy Historical Society is seeking nominations for its 2019 Architectural Awards for residential and commercial buildings, and the deadline is fast approaching.
The categories are:
- Historic Design Award, for a new building in downtown Gilroy that complements the original historic buildings or enhances the Downtown Historic District;
- Historic Commercial Building Award, for a building at last 50 years old in the Downtown; Historic District or an historic site that restores, retains or preserves the building’s historical, cultural or architectural values;
- Historic House Award for a home that is at least 50 years old that is an outstanding example of restoration and renovation, exterior only; and
- Certificate of Commendation for residential, commercial or “other,” which could be for new construction, restoration, renovation, additions, landscaping, painting or significant improvement.
The deadline for nominations for the architectural awards is March 31. Nominations may be sent to gi***********@ci**********.org , or call 408-846-0446 for more information.
The society is continuing its update of the city’s historic resource inventory. The current catalog of 385 historic buildings was completed in 1986,and the society has hired an expert to update the inventory, with the final result due to be completed before the city’s 150th anniversary in 2020.
