Gilroy’s Bonfante Gardens will host more than 200 vendors and exhibits during the Home and Garden Show Saturday and Sunday.

“Gilroy is fortunate to have this event in its own backyard,” said event promoter Susan Bassi. “It offers homeowners an opportunity to find everything, to completely remodel, decorate a patio or just hire a handyman to fix things around the house. It also offers a fun afternoon with family, friends and neighbors. It makes for a complete day. Instead of being done in an hour, you have an outing.”

In addition to the decorating, remodeling and landscaping projects, there will also be several how-to seminars throughout the event.

Lee Snijders, from HGTV’s “Design on a Dime,” will be speaking on “Breaking the Rules of Design” Sunday at noon and 3pm. Snijders will also be available after each seminar to answer design questions and sign autographs.

Travis Smith, who helped with the installation of water features inside Bonfante Gardens, will speak both days to help homeowners with their own water feature installations and water maintenance questions.

Several of the venders will be selling pottery, plants and other home décor items not available in stores.

“It is really the only show around here,” Bassi said. “A lot of vendors in the larger shows don’t really want to come down here. That is one of the reasons we started the show – to tap into the area’s vast potential. Everyone is very friendly in this market.”

It will be the first time since 2000 that the spring Home and Garden Show will be at Bonfante, Bassi said. There have been smaller fall shows, focusing more on products for inside the home. The spring show has both outside and inside items.

A wide variety of vendors will be available to help homeowners with all their needs. There will be custom concrete installers and vendors of iron gates and custom front doors. PG&E will demonstrate solar power use, and the water district will showcase water-saving techniques.

“It is a way for people to get all kinds of information in one shot,” Bassi said. “We’ve grown every single year. A lot of our vendors get as much business as they do in the larger shows in San Jose and San Francisco.”

Admission to Bonfante Gardens includes the show. Admission to the show is free with a season pass. A half-price ticket is available at www.svshows.com. For more information, call (408) 682-4700.
