Humberto Olivares, of Gilroy, died Nov. 22, 2002, at O’Connor
Hospital in San Jose, of cancer, at the age of 58.
Humberto “Bert” Olivares, of Gilroy, died Nov. 22, 2002, at O’Connor Hospital in San Jose of cancer at the age of 58. Humberto was born in Crystal City, Texas on Feb. 27, 1944 and moved to California with his family in 1948, where they settled in Gilroy.
After Bert was wed, he moved to San Jose where he enjoyed his career as an auto painter for 25 years, specializing in higher end automobiles.
In his latter years he moved back to Gilroy, where he belonged to St. Mary Parish, was an avid fisherman and gardener. Bert enjoyed San Francisco 49er’s (sometimes Raider’s) and was also a Giants fan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alonso Olivares; mother, Francisca Olivares; and brother, Art Olivares. He is survived by his two daughters; Sheila Knottenbelt of Hollister and Juanita L. Leanos of Hollister, and grandchildren; Breanna Knottenbelt and Jesse Leanos. He is also survived by his siblings; Alonso Olivares and wife Lola, Rudy Olivares, Grace Huebner and husband Jim, Ernesto Olivares and wife Lucy and Mary Olivares. Humberto is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He will be missed dearly by his Chihuahua, Chango.
Vigil Service was held at Habing Family Funeral Home on Sunday, Nov. 24. Funeral Mass was held on Monday, Nov. 25 at St. Mary Church, Gilroy.
Burial followed at St. Mary Cemetery.
