DEAR Editor:
And to Mr. Bill Guenther … thank you for your concern. As you may have guessed, I am a completely self-appointed “guardian” and account myself as I choose to.
I was surprised to learn that one is now required to produce “credentials” in order to exercise one’s free speech rights. Thank you for asking, and please take notice of my refusal. I am not, however, surprised to learn that a person who reads Newsmax.com and thinks it is “truth in publication” finds The Dispatch perfectly “fair and balanced” (sarcasm intended). I disagree and I grant you that same right.
The demand I wrote which you objected to, is a form of a question that I feel I’ve been asking the editors for quite a while. I’ve never received a satisfactory answer one-on-one, and I decided to push the question out into the open.
When a newspaper endorses a candidate that has pledged to take away a woman’s reproductive freedom, I can’t help but wonder if the NEWSPAPER ALSO thinks that women shouldn’t have the right to choose. If they DON’T think that way, HOW can they justify the endorsement? And since they didn’t seem to care whether the candidate could WIN or not, how did they decide on him in the first place? Did they look over ALL THE OTHER candidates (135) and pick the one who was the most conservative? Why?
So if the Gilroy Dispatch is coming “out of the closet” as a RIGHT-WING publication as it SEEMS to be, I think their READERS are entitled to know it and to know why.
Some people, like you Mr. Guenther, will want to pay them TWICE as much money for a subscription, and some of the rest of us will cancel ours.
The Dispatch has been perfectly content to facilitate the constant bickering of it’s readership for years now. If they are going to pick sides like we do, it’s about time they got right in the mud with us. Works for me.
Bill C. Jones, Gilroy
