Strong winds may sweep through South County with an incoming storm early Tuesday, bringing the possibility of power outages.
Local residents are urged to prepare for the likelihood of their electricity going out. Northern California’s retail electricity provider, PG&E, has prepared by ensuring utility employees are “in the right place to respond in force to restore power safely and quickly,” according to a press release from the company.
PG&E offers the following tips for customers to prepare for the high winds:
-Have battery operated flashlights and radios with fresh batteries. Do not use candles because of the risk of fire.
-If you plan to use a generator, inform PG&E to ensure it is installed safely. If it is not, you risk endangering yourself and PG&E line workers. Information on the safe installation of generators can be found at www.pge.com/generator.
-Do not approach fallen power lines. If you see a downed power line, call 911, then call 1-800-PGE-5002.
