DEAR EDITOR:
Mike Monroe made a good point when he pointed out that “true freedom and security come from the grace of God.”
Knowing Jesus Christ is the only way to have genuine freedom and security. His letter also stated that “demonstrations are only a starting point in the struggle for peace.”
The entire situation we are in (war on terrorism) started with the attack on America on 9/11. So how do the anti-war demonstrations reduce the likelihood of another attack on American civilians? The answer is they do not. Along with the demonstrators, I wish the world were a different place. But I accept the facts, despite my wishes.
The fact is that the citizens of the USA will be attacked in mass numbers unless something is done to prevent that. The best method is to take away the capability our enemies have to attack us. For those of us concerned about God’s point of view, it is interesting that the Bible is full of examples where God’s great love does not preclude nations from protecting their citizens. We are not helpless pawns in this war on terrorism.
Our support of President Bush while he leads us in the task of disarming dangerous tyrants should be unapologetic. The demonstrations are fine (this is America) but let us not ever allow the demonstrators to think they are helping the cause of peace. If there is no war in Iraq, the odds of another 9/11 go up dramatically. I wish it were different, but it is not.
