James Edward “J.E.” Coffee died July 18, 2004, in Palo Alto. He was 82.

Born Dec. 26, 1921, Mr. Coffee was a Pearl Harbor survivor and WWII veteran. Although he only had an eighth grade education, he had a special interest in education and made sure his daughter received a college education in the area of teaching. He also was able to send both grandkids through college at UCSD. Dana Booth is completing medical school at Medical College of Wisconsin and is currently a surgical resident at the Indiana University Medical Center, and Debbie Booth, who is a director of the pre-competitive DACA swim team who also named her online jewelry store after her grandfather.

Mr. Coffee is the beloved husband of Ruth Coffee of Campbell; father of Dolores Booth of Gilroy; grandfather of Dana Alexander Booth and Deborah Ann Booth; brother of Lloyd Robertson of Oklahoma, Faye Helm of Arkansas, Dorothy Foreman of Oklahoma, Melba Cleveland of Oklahoma and Cletus Oyler of Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his sister Wanda Crownover of California

Private services are under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.
