Jean Shearer passed away on June 14, 2008, after a brief illness. She was a longtime resident of Hollister, CA, having arrived in 1947. She has spent the last 22 months in Missouri to be near her daughter, Sue.
Jean graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemestry from Kansas State at Manhatton in the 1930’s; she then took various advanced courses in education, psychology and sociology. She taught classes at San Benito High School for many years, beginning in 1961.
Jean was a life member of Delta, Delta, Delta Sorority and California Retired Teachers Assocition; she was also a member of Chapter WX, P.E.O. and The Order of Eastern Star. She was a past member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Ridgemark and Bolado Golf Clubs, The Hollister Promenaders and the Hollister Travelers trailer group. Her community volunteer work included 4-H, the Red Cross Swimming Program and the Hazel Hawkins Auxiliary,
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Steve Bryan of Paicines, CA, her daughter and son-in-law Sue and Don Nothstine of Barnard, Missouri and her son and daughter-in-law Bill and Nancy Shearer of Arroyo Grande, CA. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, her brother and sister-in-law William R. and Joyce Jenkins of Colorado Springs, CO and her sister Florence Chunn of Fair Oaks, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy W. Shearer in 1987.
As she wished, internment will be private. A Memorial Service will be held in July at the scheduled family reunion in Missouri.
