Local champion set for eight-round, non-title fight in Yakama,
Washington
GILROY – For the fourth time in her professional boxing career, world champion Kelsey ‘The Road Warrior’ Jeffries will duke it out with top-ranked opponent Jo Jo Wyman in an eight-round, non-title bout Monday night at the Yakama Nation Casino in Yakama, Washington.

The local prizefighter – who trains out of Gilroy and dwells in Hollister – has already defeated Wyman three previous times, but “(Wyman told the commissioner up there that she’s got a surprise for Kelsey,” said trainer Rick Mello.

“JoJo Wyman wants a win. She’s had three losses in a row,” Mello added. “It’s not unusual to fight that many times. (Jake) Lamotta fought (Sugar Ray) Robinson six times.”

The fight card will be televised live on the Monday Night Fights on a hispanic channel and will be shown on delay in a weeek on Fox Sports Net.

“We’ve been working with her, getting her timing down,” Mello said. “She’s learned a few more things since her last fight. She jabs a little better.

“Hopefully we’ll find out how Jo Jo bounces.”
