John J. Marfia Sr., died Friday, May 27, 2005 after a lengthy illness in Gilroy.
Mr. Marfia was a Gilroy resident for more than 50 years and a Army Veteran of World War II. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his shop, especially building his bird houses. Since 1960, he spent two weeks every fall in Salmon, Idaho. He was married for 54 years. He worked as operations director for the Gilroy Unified School District retiring in 1992, and was a member of St. Mary’s Church, American Legion #669 and a past-member of Sportsman’s Chef Club.
He is the husband of Bernice Marfia of Gilroy; father of Patty Nicholson of Gilroy and John Marfia Jr., of Hollister; father In-law of Bruce Nicholson and Patty Marfia; grandfather of Michele, Melissa and Marc Nicholson of Gilroy, Johnnie and Joseph Marfia, Adam and Sarah Smith, all of Hollister; and great-grandfather to Trevor Smith of Hollister.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8pm today, May 31, 2005 at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. Funeral services are 10am Wednesday June 1, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will follow.
