John R. Miller December 19, 1918 – June 5, 2013

Per Mr. Miller’s wishes, no services are planned. Donations to Heartland Hospice of Monterey or to a charity of the donors choice is preferred. Condolences may be sent to: www.grunnagle.com

Surrounded by family, John Miller passed away on June 5, 2013, at home on the cattle ranch his grandfather homesteaded in 1882, and where he was born Dec. 19, 1918. During WWII, he piloted a B-17 Bomber over Europe, completing 35 missions. In 1946 he married the former Barbara (“Bobbie”) Moore, of Hollister.

He was a member of the San Benito County Cattlemen’s Association, Farm Bureau, SIRS, an Emmet School trustee, and a 4-H leader. John competed in the horse show and area rodeos, where he and his siblings were often successful competitors in the track races.

He loved his family, ranch life, golf, hunting, panning gold, and playing cards. He was always up for a game of Poker, Pedro, Cribbage, or Scrabble.

Survived by his wife of 67 years, Bobbie Miller, and four children, Marti (John) Hubbell, Martin (Barbara) Miller, Linda (Dave) Kline, and Sue (Bruce) Kimball. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, his brother, Wes Miller, two nephews, and a niece. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Cecil Forrest Miller, and his identical twin, Martin Barrie Miller, both pilots who died in WWII; his sister, Ruth Fancher, and his grandson, John Michael Kline.

He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, kindness, his quiet wisdom, and his love for Bobbie’s prize-winning baked goods.
