John Sibert Siverson died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, in Morgan Hill with his family at his side. He was 61.

Mr. Siverson was born in Veblen, South Dakota, on Feb. 3, 1943. After World War II, he, with his parents, moved to Imperial Valley, where he graduated from Holtville High School in 1960, lettering in track and basketball.

He attended Redlands University, and Cal Poly Pomona before returning to Imperial Valley to marry and have one child, Pamela. He worked many years for Thor Packing Co. in Holtville, and Sahara Packing Co. in Brawley.

He last worked for the Glenn Trucking Company in Phoenix, Ariz. for more than 20 years.

Though he was born on the plains of South Dakota, he grew to love the California and Arizona deserts he called home.

While still in high school he built his own dune buggy and loved to cruise the Glamis and Yuma sand dunes and open desert.

Above all, his primary interest was his family. He especially treasured spending time with his daughter and granddaughters.

He will be greatly missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Siverson Downs and Jeff Downs; granddaughters, Camden and Dresden Downs, of Clovis; parents, Lyle and Ellen Siverson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Allen and Marjorie, and Erik and Nancy; nieces Callie, Clara and Emma; and nephew Rolf, all of Gilroy; and many other loved ones and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at Advent Lutheran Church in Morgan Hill.

Donations to the American Lung Association in memory of John will be made by his family.

All who would join them in making such donations will be appreciated.
